Practicum Partnership Program: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ'S)

Application Process

  1. Should applicants submit both an electronic application and three hard copies of appendices, etc?
  2. ANSWER: Yes, please submit your proposal on-line. In addition, submit by regular mail (i.e. hard copies) an original and two copies of any appendices, such as faculty CVs (that cannot be uploaded), and your institution and practice agencies' letters of support.

  3. What are the eligibility requirements for institutions to participate in this program?
  4. ANSWER: All CSWE-accredited MSW programs are eligible to apply— except previously PPP-funded schools.

  5. Do you fund partnership programs with BSW programs?
  6. ANSWER: No, unfortunately, at this time, we do not. We are considering exploring ways to meet this need if there is sufficient interest. In the meantime, we encourage BSW programs to explore rotational partnerships with other PPPs or consortia near them, as a way to give students a "leg up" via graduate-level exposure to PPP rotations. For more details, contact SWLI staff.

  7. Are there any special directions for consortium applications? Does each school need to submit their own demographics, budget and budget narrative?
  8. ANSWER: Please have each site submit their own demographics and budgets, but only one narrative should be done for all three sites. For those schools in the consortium that are not uploading the narrative, they will be required to upload a basic word document that states the name of the consortia partner that will include the narrative (as requested on the on-line application). Please note that we are strict about page limits, however, if you have additional information for our reviewers to consider, include it in the appendices.

  9. Do I need to attach CVs or resumes for faculty involved in the project?
  10. ANSWER: Yes.

  11. About rotations: Can we use places of worship for the first rotation and then the usual aging sites for the second year student rotation. Is this acceptable?
  12. ANSWER: We encourage innovative rotations depending on the needs of your older adult community!

  13. Do PPP students have to be 2nd year? Your PPP literature implies that the sponsored students should be 2nd year students, but it does not explicitly state this in the requirements. We are considering designing a PPP for foundation-level students, to engage them earlier in geriatrics.
  14. ANSWER: No, the students do not have to be 2nd year only. A major goal of the PPP is to produce "specialists" in geriatric social work. You would need to make a strong case for only providing the PPP to first year students, as specialization occurs most often in 2nd year. We do support the idea of engaging students as much and as early as possible, as well as to specialize to get more exposure out of the experience. This will vary between sites, so in your application, be specific as to how you see the PPP being applied in your setting, as well as the rationale for how this will contribute to improving care to your local aging populations.

  15. Does our PPP have to have a specific start date?
  16. ANSWER: The award is given out on March 15th, so it will be up to your school to determine when the program begins— though there should be enough time in Cycle 2 to plan for a Fall start date.
