Alissa Yarkony, MPH, PT
Alissa Yarkony is Associate Program Officer for the Social Work Leadership Institute at the New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM). She assists in the implementation of the Practicum Partnership Program, an educational initiative aimed at improving multidisciplinary systems of care for older adults through enhancement of field practicum experiences in master's level schools of social work nationwide.
Prior to joining the Academy in June, 2005, Alissa worked in the public and non-profit sector, both regionally and internationally. As Special Projects Coordinator at the Grandparent Resource Center at the New York City Department for the Aging, she developed health-related projects and coordinated outreach, research, and educational initiatives to address the needs of grandparent caregiving families throughout New York City. Alissa also directed a training project for aides that work with homebound persons with disabilities and the institutionalized elderly, while serving as a public health fellow at HelpAge Belize, Belize City, Belize.
In addition to her work, Alissa volunteers as a rape crisis/domestic violence advocate with the Beth Israel’s Crime Victim Treatment Center.
Alissa holds a Master of Public Health (Sociomedical Sciences) degree from the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, and specializes in urban health and aging with a focus on healthcare disparities and caregiving.
